About South Wales Windows & Doors
South Wales Windows & Doors: double glazing from Pontypridd since 1990
South Wales Windows & Doors is a family-run double glazing business that began trading in 1990 and presents itself as the longest-established provider of double glazing and UPVC doors in the region. From its base at Unit 9A, Upper Boat Industrial Park in Pontypridd, the company supplies and installs windows, doors, conservatories and porches for homeowners in Cardiff, South Wales and the South West, working to customer specifications.
The firm states that it is registered with FENSA, the competent person scheme for the replacement of windows, doors, roof windows and roof lights in the UK, and that it offers an insurance-backed ten-year guarantee on its work.
Windows, doors and glazed extensions
The product range is organised around four main lines, each with several variants:
- Windows: casement windows, coloured UPVC windows, bay and bow windows, tilt and turn windows, sash and vertical sliders, and flush windows. The company also lists a glass repair service.
- Doors: composite doors, UPVC doors, speciality doors, aluminium doors, bi-fold doors, French doors and sliding patio doors.
- Conservatories: Edwardian, Victorian and lean-to styles.
- Porches and commercial roofline: entrance porches and roofline work for commercial properties.
An online door designer tool is offered so that customers can configure a door before enquiring. The company describes its double glazed and UPVC products as reducing heat loss and outside noise compared with single glazing, and as improving the energy efficiency of a home; products are available in a range of colours and styles, with the team tailoring the chosen specification to each property.
How a project is handled
The process described by the company runs from quotation to installation. A free, no-obligation quotation is offered, and a home visit can be arranged so that a sales consultant can talk through the available options. Once an order is placed, an installation date is agreed with the customer, who can call at any point to discuss progress. On the installation day, the company's craftsmen arrive at the pre-arranged time and carry out the fitting.
The company states that most of its work comes from recommendations and repeat customers, and that it does not use a hard-sell approach. A customer testimonial published on the site describes having used the service three times, with quick service and tidy installation at competitive prices.
Company history
The business was started in 1990 by Haydn, who had worked in the sale of windows and doors through the 1970s and 1980s. It began with an office and showroom on Woodville Road. Growth in products and staff led to a move to City Road in Cardiff in 1994, where a larger showroom was opened. In 1999 the company moved into manufacturing at premises in Taffs Well, where it remained for more than twenty years.
Haydn's daughter Catrin joined in 2009, initially in an administrative role, and moved into management. In 2019 the company relocated to Treforest, opening a large showroom where customers can browse products. Haydn, now in his seventies, works part time alongside Catrin, who is a director together with her husband. The company describes itself as having over 25 years of continuous trade under the same ownership, with some employees having been with the business since the beginning.
Commercial and domestic customers
Although the emphasis is on homeowners in Cardiff and South Wales, the company states that its range can also be applied to business premises, whether the aim is to maintain a period style or to give a commercial property a more modern appearance. Commercial roofline work is listed as a separate service line.
Credit brokerage disclosure
