About Lion Quays Resort
A canal-side spa hotel on the Shropshire border
Lion Quays Resort sits along the banks of the Llangollen Canal, close to the border between Shropshire and North Wales. It is part of LQ Resorts, a group that also operates Langstone Quays in Hampshire, The Parkway Hotel in Torfaen and Ufford Park in Suffolk. The property combines accommodation, dining, a spa and a fitness club on one site, and positions itself both as a short-break destination and as a local stop for a meal.
Rooms and suites
The accommodation consists of rooms and suites equipped with Hypnos beds and described by the hotel as featuring homely touches and views over the Shropshire countryside. The resort presents the rooms as suitable for stays of one or two nights within a wider visit that may also include dining and spa use.
Spa, treatments and club
The spa is presented as a space for members, groups and individual guests, with a stated emphasis on relaxation rather than a clinical or medical approach. Its offer is organised around spa breaks, spa days, spa groups and individual treatments, and the resort also sells its own spa products. The on-site club is fitted with Technogym equipment and is open to members, spa-goers and hotel guests; it has its own café for post-workout coffees. Club memberships and classes are managed separately from the spa offer.
Dining
Dining at Lion Quays covers several formats, from light bites to fuller dinners. The site lists a waterside afternoon tea, a Café Ash and the Lion Quays Dining restaurant. The resort also handles tables for events and celebrations, including wedding menus.
Padel courts on site
ACE Padel operates at Lion Quays with three courts. According to the resort's own news updates, two of the three courts were scheduled to be covered to allow year-round play. The weekly programme includes social sessions, structured coaching and junior padel, aimed at beginners, improvers and players looking for regular games.
Weddings, events and group stays
The resort markets itself for weddings and celebrations, with dedicated event spaces, wedding packages, real weddings and private wedding tours, as well as wedding fayres. It also publishes a seasonal events calendar covering Christmas, Halloween, Bonfire Night, New Year, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Easter, the spring bank holiday, Father's Day and the summer holidays. Group business is broken down into sports clubs, production companies, car clubs, tour groups, bridge groups and Masonic events, alongside corporate bookings and golf breaks. Team building is listed as a separate activity.
Offers and seasonal packages
At the time of writing this profile, the offers page listed a VIP Spa Upgrade from £60, adding a private VIP suite and secluded garden with either a hot tub or sauna, an elevated VIP lunch and a glass of chilled Prosecco. It also listed an Autumn Glory Spa Day from £79, available September to November, with half-day spa access, refreshments, a TEMPLESPA treatment and a spa lunch, plus use of the leisure facilities and pool, with an upgrade to a full day of spa access for £20 per person. A Christmas party package featuring an Oasis tribute band, Supernova, and a resident DJ was advertised from £52.50. These are catalogue prices and packages that the resort presents as time-limited.
Other details
The resort's news section reported in May 2026 that LQ Resorts was expanding electric vehicle charging across three of its hotels. Gift vouchers are sold for stays, dining, spa and golf across the group. The site also maintains a blog and a gallery, and publishes separate what's-on listings for Shropshire and for the group's other locations.
