About Macro Based Diet
Macro Based Diet: macro-counted meal prep from a Middlesbrough kitchen
Macro Based Diet is a meal prep company based on Skippers Lane in Middlesbrough, trading as Mike Hind Fitness Limited. It cooks every meal in its own kitchen and delivers chilled, ready-to-heat food across mainland UK. The company presents itself as a family business: thirteen people cook, label, pack, drive and handle enquiries, and the founders state that every meal leaving the kitchen passes through their hands.
Its core proposition is customisation. Customers choose a portion size and the number of meals, then build each dish from a protein, a carbohydrate and a vegetable, selecting from more than 1,300 combinations. Each meal carries its calories and macros on the label, so no cooking or preparation is required beyond reheating.
Three calorie tiers and weekly plans
The menu is organised around goals rather than fixed dishes. The site lists three tiers with indicative calorie counts and per-meal prices:
- Weight Loss meal prep: around 300 calories, £4.85 a meal.
- Maintenance meal prep: around 370 calories, £5.40 a meal.
- Weight Gain meal prep: around 470 calories, £5.95 a meal.
Beyond individual meals, the company offers complete weekly meal plans and a build-your-own option. A separate breakfast and snacks range includes high-protein overnight oats, pancakes, waffles, steak and egg muffins, granola with yoghurt, oats with protein and a QNT protein shake, with listed prices between £2.50 and £3.75. A low-calorie cheesecake also appears in that range.
The Protein Parmo®
Macro Based Diet holds a registered UK trade mark for the Protein Parmo®, which it describes as originating in its own kitchen. The item sits alongside the meal prep lines as a distinct product rather than part of the calorie-tier system.
Delivery across Teesside and mainland UK
Orders are dispatched chilled. The company's own van covers every TS postcode on Teesside, while DPD handles the rest of mainland UK, excluding the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Delivery costs £7.50, and customers can instead collect in Middlesbrough to avoid the charge. Order cut-offs are set at 12 noon on Sunday for Sunday evening delivery, 6pm on Sunday for Monday or Wednesday DPD delivery, and 6pm on Wednesday for Thursday.
The site also includes a calorie calculator that estimates daily needs from height, weight, age, gender, exercise frequency and goal, and a loyalty scheme in which online orders earn 5% back as Meal Money. No contract or minimum commitment is required.
Owners and kitchen team
The business was started in 2018 by Mike Hind, who continues to design the menu, portion sizes and macros. Jenny Hind is co-founder and runs the kitchen. Mike Hind is described as an IFBB coach and Advanced Sports Nutritional Advisor, was named the UK's best personal trainer by the National Fitness Awards four years running, and holds an MBE for services to the community.
The kitchen team is listed by name, with senior kitchen staff holding Level 3 Food Hygiene and the remaining kitchen staff and the delivery driver holding Level 2. The company reports a food hygiene rating of 5 from the Food Standards Agency.
Awards and trading record
The company states it was named Meal Prep Company of the Year 2024 by the Prestige Awards and won the National Fitness Awards title for Innovation in Fitness and Nutrition. It was shortlisted for Best Takeaway in the North East at the Just Eat Restaurant Awards 2022.
Since the website moved to Shopify in May 2022, customers have placed more than 20,000 orders worth over £1 million through it, from more than 5,000 people. The company describes 2025 as its strongest year to date and reports that 2026 is running ahead of it. It also cites a 4.9 rating on Google.
