British Beds Direct

British-made beds sold online by British Beds Direct

British Beds Direct is an online retailer specialising in beds and mattresses made in Britain, a positioning the company dates to 2005. Its catalogue is organised around complete sleeping setups rather than single products: divan bases, ottoman divans, bed frames, ottoman bed frames, low-profile divan bases, headboards, mattresses, storage boxes and bedding. The range is presented as suitable for a broad public, from guest rooms to main bedrooms.

Divans, ottoman storage and bed frames

The divan side of the catalogue distinguishes standard divan bases, ottoman divans, low divan bases and guest divan beds. Storage is a recurring feature: some bases are offered without drawers, while others include two large foot-end drawers or four drawers in varied sizes. The ottoman range includes end-lift and half-end-lift storage bases, the latter combined with two small drawers.

Bed frames and ottoman bed frames form a separate section. Named models in the catalogue include the Catherine upholstered low divan base, available with chrome glides, Shepard castors or gold legs, the Eleanor storage ottoman bed base and the Elizabeth divan base in several drawer configurations.

Headboards in floor-standing and strutted versions

Headboards are split into floor-standing and strutted mounting types, with upholstered finishes and models such as Taylor, Shelley, Shakespeare, Chaplin, Elgar, Lulu, Nightingale, Twiggy and Moneypenny. The range covers plain, button-backed and fluted designs, and the site also lists tall headboards among its popular searches.

Mattress types by filling and spring system

Mattresses are grouped by construction: natural fillings, hypoallergenic, pocket spring, orthopaedic and open coil. Concrete examples in the catalogue include the Classic 1000 with 1,000 pocket springs in medium-firm, the Classic 1500 with 1,500 pocket springs in medium, the Natural 1500 and Natural 2000 pocket-spring mattresses in soft-medium and firm respectively, the Organic 6000 with 6,000 pocket springs in medium-firm, and the Essential medium mattress with open coil springs.

Storage boxes, bedding and swatches

Beyond beds and mattresses, the shop sells upholstered ottoman blanket boxes, including the Taylor Simply and Lennon Chesterfield-style models, and a bedding line that features Laura Ashley bedding, pillows and duvets. Complimentary fabric swatches are offered so customers can check upholstery before ordering.

Delivery, guarantee and service claims

The company states that it provides free two-man delivery within three to ten working days, along with bed installation, and mentions old bed or mattress removal and bed set-up among its popular searches. It also advertises a five-year guarantee and describes its products as healthcare endorsed and backed by medical experts. At the time of writing this profile, the site displayed an Autumn Event with reductions of up to half price and complimentary delivery and bed installation for that week.

Customer feedback is presented on the site through a Trustpilot rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on 954 reviews, alongside a separate claim of more than 900 reviews rated excellent.
