Somerlap Forest Products: timber garden products from Mark, Somerset

Somerlap Forest Products supplies wooden garden products and has been doing so since 1991, according to the company's own description. The business is based in Mark, Somerset, and sells through its online catalogue, which is organised into pallets, fencing, furniture, gardening, sheds and storage, gates, decking, leisure, timber and firewood, and clearance lines. The company states that its timber is sustainably sourced and that many products are made locally in Somerset.

Fencing and gates

Fencing is one of the broadest areas of the catalogue. It covers panels, posts, trellis (including made-to-order trellis), gravel boards, agricultural fencing components, stakes and rails, concrete and accessories. Panel options listed include horizontal overlap panels in brown and green, vertical feather edge panels, hazel and willow hurdle panels, palisade or picket panels, square horizontal panels, cross top panels, Omega premium panels with lattice top, a Venetian fence panel and a premium horizontal lattice top panel. The site also lists an installation service for fencing.

Gates are sold alongside fencing, with garden gates, entrance gates, 5 bar gates and fittings. The company describes its entrance gates as crafted from Scandinavian Redwood.

Sheds, storage and leisure buildings

The sheds and storage range includes animal housing, sheds, bin stores, storage boxes, log stores and accessories, supported by a shed buying guide. Under leisure, the catalogue lists playhouses, summerhouses and BBQ shelters. A separate installation service is offered for this area as well.

Decking, furniture and gardening

Decking products are grouped into accessories, fixings, rails, spindles and boards, with guidance on cleaning and maintenance. Garden furniture includes picnic benches, benches, chairs, tables, parasols and bases, with a separate seating section for benches and chairs. The gardening range covers groundcover and matting, log roll, arches and arbours, pergolas, compost bins, planters, hose and accessories, brooms and brushes, and flexi tubs.

Timber, firewood and clearance

Under timber and firewood, Somerlap lists treatment, sleepers, dung boards, cladding, easy edge timber, logs and firewood, and sawn timber. The company states that it offers treated and untreated sawn timber, framing timber, cladding, waney edge boards and tongue and groove boards. The site also addresses DEFRA regulations on burning wet wood and selling certain fuels. A clearance section carries log roll and Protek products.

Delivery area and practical notes

The site states that delivery is limited to BA, BS and TA postcodes, and that customers outside these areas must arrange their own courier. It also carries a notice that hot weather can cause timber to move, including cracking, splitting or warping, and that this is a natural response rather than necessarily a product defect.

Certification and customer feedback

The company announced on its blog that it had achieved Cyber Essentials certification, a Government-backed scheme. The site displayed a rating derived from 422 reviews when this profile was written, and individual reviews referenced long-standing custom, garden paths, logs and retaining walls made from the company's boards.
