Ratatype

Touch-typing courses and practice

Ratatype provides structured typing lessons and practice exercises for learners who want to build keyboarding speed and accuracy. The service offers courses for several languages and keyboard layouts, including English QWERTY, AZERTY and Dvorak, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German QWERTZ, French AZERTY, Ukrainian and Italian. Lessons guide users through exercises and skills rather than allowing them to skip ahead, so learners can build familiarity with the full keyboard progressively.

Typing tests and certificates

Visitors can take an online typing-speed test to measure their performance and receive a personal certificate page. Ratatype offers certificates for course completion and test results, with paid certificate options described in its current terms. A certificate page can display the learner's name, result and test date to anyone with its link; users may choose a pseudonym if they do not want to show their real name publicly.

Tools for teachers and classes

Ratatype offers free touch-typing instruction for teachers and supports class and student management, synchronized lessons and Google Classroom sign-on. A teacher or school can create an account for students and manage a class, while paid Ratatype Plus for classes provides one-year student licences. Classroom access and student results are governed by the service's educational-use and privacy terms, which teachers and school administrators should review before setting up a group.

Games and keyboard utilities

The site supplements lessons with typing games such as Ratashooter and Ratarace, plus typing tips and frequently asked questions. Additional browser tools include a keyboard test to check key functionality and a word and character counter for writing. The site's exercises provide feedback for completing a lesson, accuracy and speed. Course languages, keyboard layouts and features can differ by region or product version.

Accounts, subscriptions and company contact

Ratatype's service includes free practice and a paid Ratatype Plus subscription, which the current terms describe as removing promotional banners, lifting daily exercise limits and loading pages faster. Payments are handled through Stripe, and subscriptions renew unless cancelled before the next billing period. Ratatype Ltd is registered in England and Wales and lists c/o Italian Accountants Ltd, Unit 2 Bedford Mews, London N2 9DF. Its terms and privacy pages provide the current email and user-support information.
