About Mint Securities Ltd.
Mint Securities: Safe Deposit Lockers in Leicester
Mint Securities Ltd. operates a safety deposit centre in Leicester, United Kingdom, offering secure lockers and safety deposit boxes in a range of sizes. The company presents itself as an award-winning provider, noting a nomination for Best Small Business 2023. Its services are aimed at individuals and businesses seeking secure storage for documents and valuables outside the home.
Security and Access
The facility uses a multi-layer security system: photo, card, PIN code, fingerprint and locker key are all verified before access is granted. Vaults are monitored, 365 days a year, and the premises include private viewing rooms where customers can access their boxes in comfort and privacy. Each box comes with two high-security keys that cannot be copied or duplicated. Only registered users can access a box, and customers may designate a key holder at registration. If a key is lost, the company advises replacing the lock; losing both keys requires an engineer on site and incurs a greater cost.
The company states that access outside working hours is not available: once the doors are locked, the premises remain secure until the next business day.
Box Sizes and Pricing
Mint Securities offers seven locker sizes, all with a uniform width of 250mm and depth of 400mm, varying in height from 50mm to 300mm. The published pricing structure includes a registration fee of £40 per person, a fully refundable deposit of £100, and annual rental fees that range from £90 for the smallest box (Mint 50) to £550 for the largest (Mint 300). Intermediate sizes are priced at £120 (Mint 75), £250 (Mint 100), £300 (Mint 125), £350 (Mint 150) and £400 (Mint 175).
Insurance and Valuations
Optional insurance is available through Noble Security Box, a trading style of Noble Insurance Services Ltd., authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Firm Reference Number 305884). Mint Securities acts as an Introducer Appointed Representative. The policy is issued in the name of the individual renting the box, allowing policyholders to tailor cover and claim directly. Complimentary insurance is provided for the first year. Cover can be increased up to £500,000 per box, with no limit on the number of boxes insured; amounts above £500,000 must be split across multiple boxes. Cash stored in the box can be insured up to £500,000. Keys and locks are covered up to £250, with no excess for key cover but only one claim per policy year.
An optional 'Wear Cover' extension allows items to be taken outside the facility for up to 30 days per policy year, covering items while worn, carried or stored in a locked safe within the UK, up to 30% of the sum insured inside the box and a maximum of £100,000. Cash is not covered under Wear Cover. On-site valuations by certified jewellers are offered as an insurance-approved service from as little as £300.
Permitted and Prohibited Items
The company lists documents such as marriage certificates, copies of wills, birth certificates, passport copies, education certificates, separation or divorce papers, social security information, health records, military records, share certificates and business documentation as suitable for storage. Valuable items include jewellery, gold and silver, antiques, paintings, irreplaceable items, family heirlooms and photographs.
Prohibited items include any living item (animals and plants), noxious materials, offensive materials including drugs, inflammable or explosive materials, firearms, immoral items, perishable items, banned or embargoed items, stolen goods, items stored to evade law enforcement, and money obtained from crime or fraudulent activity.
Legal Protection and Tenant Rights
Each box is rented individually, and the contents remain the property of the customer. The company states that all customers have 'Tenant Rights', meaning it would be illegal for any party, including an insolvency practitioner, to access a customer's box or sell its contents. In the unlikely event that anything should happen to Mint Securities, customers would be contacted and advised on next steps.
Facilities and Multiple Users
All sites offer free on-site parking monitored, 365 days a year. Up to four users can be granted access per safe deposit locker. The vaults are purpose-built and constructed to what the company describes as the highest specifications, following stringent guidelines to exceed required industry standards.
