About EKCO (Edinburgh Kitchen Company)
EKCO: German kitchens and home improvements from a 10,000 sq ft Scottish showroom
EKCO, originally the Edinburgh Kitchen Company, was set up in 1999 as a family-run business supplying and installing German-engineered kitchens in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. More than 25 years later it remains family owned and run, and its range has widened from kitchens to bathrooms, dressing rooms, doors, windows and glass structures for homes and businesses. The company describes itself as one of Scotland's leading specialists in kitchens, bathrooms, glazing and home-improvement solutions, and holds KBSA awards.
Kitchens: Pronorm and Masterclass ranges
The kitchen side of the business centres on Pronorm German kitchens, which EKCO designs, plans and installs around the customer's lifestyle and budget. The catalogue lists Pronorm Contemporary Kitchens in X-Line, Y-Line, Pro-Line and Classic-Line, alongside Masterclass Traditional Kitchens in the Ashbourne, Bloomsbury, Carnegie, Clifton, Hardwick, Hatfield, Hawksmoor, Kensington, Marlborough, Padstow, Sherbourne and Solva styles. Masterclass Cloakrooms and Pronorm Dressing Rooms extend the fitted-furniture offer beyond the kitchen itself.
Kitchen components covered include appliances, sinks and taps, Karndean flooring, wall and floor tiles, kitchen lighting, underfloor heating, refrigeration (fridges, freezers, fridge freezers and wine coolers), cooking equipment (cooker hoods, built-in extractors, single and double ovens, microwaves and induction hobs), laundry appliances (dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers and washer dryers) and worktops in Silestone, Corian, laminate and quartz. A trade-only kitchen service is also advertised for Edinburgh.
Bathrooms, doors, windows and glass structures
Bathroom work is presented with Ambiance Bain and Hansgrohe among the brands, covering both traditional and modern bathrooms in Edinburgh. The glazing side is described as high-performance and includes Internorm, Solarlux and Origin products: Internorm windows, Origin aluminium windows, Wolf Line aluclad and timber windows, casement, sash and uPVC windows, Passivhaus and triple-glazed windows. Doors include Spitfire aluminium front doors in the S-100, S-200, S-500 and S-700 series (with door designers for the S-200 and S-500), bi-folding and sliding doors, Cero sliding doors and internal doors. Glass extensions, glass canopies and SpaceKube space-saving structures complete the range.
How a project is handled
EKCO outlines a five-step process for kitchens and bathrooms. It begins with an initial site survey to understand the space, its design requirements and constraints, using plans where available. Designers then produce a design based on the survey, refined with customer feedback. A final survey checks measurements and details before any orders are placed. Installation follows, carried out by the company's own fitting team. A supply-only option is offered for projects involving architects and builders, or for customers outside the installation areas.
The company offers a complimentary design consultation with its designers, and the site invites customers to indicate whether their interest is in kitchens, bathrooms, bifold doors, Spacekube, doors, windows, glass extensions and canopies.
Showroom and sister companies
The showroom is a 10,000 sq ft space in West Lothian, described as being in Uphall, with a large amount of product on display and a virtual showroom available online. EKCO states that it operates four sister companies: Wolf Line, Wolff Doors, Spacekube and Eco Bifold, each focused on different products and solutions for the home.
Brands and partners
Pronorm is presented as a German kitchen manufacturer based in West Germany, the birthplace of the kitchen industry, with an emphasis on quality, contemporary yet timeless design, German craftsmanship and eco-conscious production; EKCO plans and executes installations through Pronorm's regional dealer network. Masterclass Kitchens, whose history dates to 1975, is described as a second-generation enterprise with an 80,000 sq ft factory and more than 230 employees, making design-led, functional and affordable furniture. Internorm, a family business that began 90 years ago with uPVC windows, is presented as a leading manufacturer of premium high-performance windows in Europe.
Customer feedback
Testimonials published on the site describe a positive experience from start to finish, helpful staff who communicated well, tradesmen arriving on time, tidy working and a completed bathroom the customer was delighted with. Another reviewer mentions bifolding doors fitted the previous year and a later remedial issue resolved with replacement parts and a fitter visit. These are individual accounts rather than a general assessment of the company.
