About Buggy Repair Centre

Buggy and pram care in Stockbridge, Edinburgh

Buggy Repair Centre operates from a shop at 13 St. Stephen Street in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. The business was founded in 2010 by Graeme Slater, a father of five, initially selling secondhand baby equipment before shifting its focus to repairing and retailing buggies and prams. Over time it added pram and buggy cleaning and the restoration of vintage coach-built prams. The company describes itself as having thirteen years of experience in cleaning, repairing and selling new and pre-owned buggies at the time of writing.

Work is by appointment, bookable online, although tyre and tube changes are handled on a drop-in basis at the shop. The company also offers a home collection and return service for valeting orders of £80 or more, with eligible areas and charges set out in a collection map.

Cleaning and valeting with steam

The cleaning process relies on steam, which the company says reaches temperatures of 360 degrees and destroys 99% of bacteria, mould and allergens. The heat also loosens and breaks down dirt to make fabrics easier to clean. The approach is presented as eco-friendly: water and household soap are used instead of harsh chemicals, with the aim of limiting environmental impact.

Deep cleans are offered for buggies and systems that have been in storage, bought second-hand or simply need freshening up, with a stated turnaround of three to four working days. Express car-seat cleaning is quoted at 24 to 48 hours. Examples of work described include removal of sun cream residue, cat hair, mould, stains and ingrained grime, as well as valeting and servicing a Silver Cross Kensington coach-built pram with polished chrome and whitened tyres, and cleaning an iCandy Peach seat unit.

Repairs and servicing

The repair service covers brakes, wheels, bearings, foam, rivets, tyres, tubes, harnesses and clips. The company states it has also repaired mobility frames, children's scooters, golf trollies, accordion trollies and dog buggies. Customers can send a video or photos of the fault by WhatsApp to find out whether an item is repairable. A foot rest on a Venicci seat unit that had come loose at the hem is cited as an example of stitching work.

Buggy Repair Centre is an official Uppababy repair centre for the Vista and Cruz models. It also services and valets prams, including coach-built and dolls' prams, and stocks tyres and tubes for the most popular buggy models, which can be changed while the customer waits.

Maclaren training and retail

Graeme Slater became a certified Maclaren service agent after training at the original Maclaren factory in Long Buckby, England, specialising in servicing and repairing buggy chassis. The shop also acts as a stockist of Out 'n' About buggies, available to order, with prices available by phone.
