About Voltco
Voltco: EV charging, solar and electrical work from Birkenshaw
Voltco is the trading name of EV Chargers and Electricals Limited, an electrical contractor based in Cleckheaton and operating from premises at 81 Station Lane in Birkenshaw and 444 Oxford Road in Gomersal. The company installs electric vehicle chargers, solar PV and battery storage, and also carries out general electrical work. Its stated coverage for EV installations spans Bradford, Harrogate, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield and York, while solar and battery installations are listed for Leeds.
Chargers offered and fitted prices
The charger range shown on the site comprises three home models, each quoted as a total fitted price including VAT and surge protection, alongside a promotional sale price:
- Zappi by MyEnergi, described as a bestselling British charger, available tethered or untethered and compatible with solar PV: £1149 including VAT, reduced to £1099 in the sale.
- Ohme Home Pro, a 7kW unit with a 5m tethered cable, interactive LCD screen and smart charging capability: £999 including VAT, reduced to £949.
- Hypervolt Home Pro, with smart home integration, up to 10m of tethered cable and a choice of black or white: £1130 including VAT, reduced to £1080.
The site also advertised an autumn promotion giving £50 off all installations before 30 September 2026.
What a standard installation covers
According to the company, every charger price includes a standard installation that is fully tested and certified by its approved electrician. The scope covers mounting the charger on a suitable permanent structure, up to 10 metres of cable between the charger and the electrical distribution board, and running the cable through a single wall up to 500mm thick.
Grants and accreditation
Voltco states that it is an OZEV-approved installer, which allows it to claim grants under government schemes on customers' behalf, and that it is NAPIT registered. It is also MCS certified for solar and battery storage. On funding, the site explains that the OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme provided a £350 discount on home charging equipment and installation, but that this ended for most household installations on 31 March 2022 and was withdrawn from April 2022 for owners of independent houses, from bungalows to terraced homes. The scheme remained available, per the site, to homeowners living in flats and to people in rental accommodation, whether flats or single-use properties. Voltco offers to handle the claim and paperwork for eligible customers.
General electrical services
Beyond EV charging, the company continues to take on all types of electrical installation, including consumer unit updates, domestic and commercial rewires, and electrical inspection and testing.
How the company operates
Voltco was founded in 2021 by Chris Hawkins and Andy Taylor, who met through their children in 2016. Hawkins is described as an industry-approved electrician with more than 15 years of experience in electrical installation, inspection and testing; Taylor has a marketing background of over 20 years and has run his own business since 2010. The company offers a free online consultation with no obligation and states that it aims to respond to quote requests within two hours. It also produces a podcast, The Voltco CH.AT, in which the two owners discuss running and growing the business alongside family life.
