Cambridge Rowing Experience

Rowing on the River Cam with Cambridge Rowing Experience

Cambridge Rowing Experience is an independent organisation that provides opportunities to row on the River Cam in Cambridge. It states explicitly that it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Cambridge or any of its colleges. The company runs half-day sessions throughout the year using what it describes as high-quality facilities and equipment, and participants row in a coxed eight boat, the format used by crews in the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. The experience is designed so that participants can become a member of a town rowing club for the day without needing any university affiliation.

Programmes for beginners, visitors and groups

The offering is organised around several distinct formats. The signature individual experience is aimed at complete beginners and is presented as a quintessentially Cambridge day out. Existing rowers visiting the city can join sessions through a dedicated visiting rowers programme. Separately, the company runs a learn-to-row course under a pay-as-you-row scheme that requires no commitment, and a youth course that can accommodate UK or international groups of children aged 11 and over.

Group bookings form another core part of the activity. Private group bookings are offered through various packages, each tailored to the group, its size and its timings. Stag and hen groups have a dedicated option described as a lively rowing experience for those seeking adventure. Corporate team building is also available, positioned around learning teamwork and suitable for teambuilding and hospitality days.

Gift vouchers and practical information

Gift vouchers are available for experience days, lessons and learn-to-row courses. The website also lists land training, lessons and membership among its offerings, alongside a shop and merchandise. Additional resources published on the site include a risk assessment, frequently asked questions, terms and conditions, a River Cam map, brochures and a blog.
