Afrori Books

Books by Black authors

Afrori Books describes itself as a specialist bookseller devoted to books by Black authors. Its catalogue spans fiction, crime and thrillers, romance, graphic novels, science fiction and fantasy, historical and contemporary writing, poetry, cookery, home and garden, faith, self-help and nonfiction. Customers can browse new and forthcoming titles as well as books selected by author, subject and reader age.

Children’s and young-adult reading

The shop organizes children’s books by age, from early years through readers aged 11–13, and offers a teen and young-adult section. It also highlights children’s nonfiction and themed collections. These categories help families find titles for a particular age range; readers should check each book’s synopsis, format and publisher information when choosing a gift or reading material.

Events and community

Afrori Books promotes book clubs and author events alongside its retail catalogue. The site also features Black History Month selections for adults and children and presents the shop as a community space for discovering British and African writers. Visitors can check the current events pages for dates, booking details and whether an activity is in person or online.

Recognition and browsing

The website notes awards including British Bookseller of the Year in 2023 and 2025, Retailer of the Year in 2024 and 2025, and Brighton Business of the Year in 2023, and mentions shortlisting for Bookshop of the Year. Customers can search the online store, create an account and manage a cart; availability and delivery terms are shown at checkout.
