About My Dog's Trainer
Residential dog training across southern England
My Dog's Trainer runs residential training courses in which the dog stays with a trainer at fully licensed kennel facilities in Southampton, Oxfordshire or South London. The programme is built on short, frequent sessions with the same trainer each day, away from the habits of home, and every course ends with an hour-long one-to-one handover lesson so the owner can carry the work forward.
The company states that its courses start at £745 per week, described as fully inclusive and as a one-off fee that covers lifetime support. Longer courses are presented as better suited to more complex behaviours.
How a stay is organised
On drop-off day the owner goes through the dog's needs in detail with the trainer who will handle the stay, shows the vaccination record (the site notes that UK law requires proof of up-to-date vaccinations for any kennel stay) and signs the check-in paperwork. The company supplies leads, collars and beds, and asks owners to bring the dog's own food so the routine does not change.
Each training day includes three to five short sessions of 15 to 40 minutes, with the length set by how well the dog is focusing that day. Alongside the training there are two walks, socialisation and enrichment, and treats and attention from the team. During the stay the trainer sends progress updates with photos and videos and gives the owner a direct line to check how the dog is settling.
On collection day the trainer briefs the owner on what the dog has learned and takes them out to the training fields, where the dog demonstrates the work. The owner then receives an hour-long one-to-one lesson on maintaining progress at home and leaves with a written training plan.
Four course levels
The catalogue is structured in four progressive programmes, all priced on the same weekly basis:
- Basic — five training days over a one-week stay of four nights, aimed at up to two behaviours such as lead walking, basic recall, sit, down, place or jumping up, with six weeks of online support from the trainer.
- Standard — ten training days over a twelve-day stay, covering up to four behaviours including anything from the Basic course, recall around distractions, on-lead reactivity and general obedience or puppy training, with twelve weeks of online support.
- Advanced / Working Breeds — fifteen training days over a nineteen-day stay, for specific and severe issues such as dog reactivity, resource guarding, aggressive on-lead reactivity and excessive barking, including general obedience, with lifetime support and a five-day refresher stay in the first year (boarding fees only, terms apply).
- Reactivity — twenty training days over a twenty-six-day stay, for the most severe behaviours including people reactivity and dog aggression, with general obedience, lifetime support and a free five-day top-up stay in the first year (terms apply).
Behaviours addressed and limits of the method
The site lists pulling, bolting, lunging and guarding among the problems it handles, together with loose lead walking, recall around distractions and other dogs, sit, stay or wait, place, leave or drop, over-excitability, jumping up, socialisation, impulse control, dog reactivity, dog aggression, fear reactivity, dog-to-human reactivity, resource guarding and excessive barking.
The company also sets out what residential training is not intended for: toilet training, chewing and problems that only occur at home. It explains that intensive training is not suited to behaviour that cannot be recreated in a kennel environment and states that, in those cases, a trainer who visits the home is the better option.
Support after the course
Owners leave with a full training plan to refer to at home. Support afterwards is described as free for life by email and phone, and for courses of ten days or more it includes one-to-one sessions back at the centre.
Centres and coverage
The company operates three training centres in southern England, each run from fully licensed kennel facilities with experienced training staff, plus a head office in Bournemouth. The Southampton centre serves Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester, Romsey, Totton, the New Forest and nearby areas; the Oxfordshire centre covers Oxford, Abingdon, Witney, Bicester, Banbury, Didcot and nearby; and the South London centre covers Croydon, Coulsdon, Purley, Sutton, Bromley, Wimbledon and nearby. The site indicates that exact centre addresses are shared when a booking is made and that the office team identifies the closest centre with availability for the requested dates.
Reviews and affiliations
The site displays a Trustpilot TrustScore of 4.8 from 442 reviews, with 94% rated four stars or more, and quotes verbatim excerpts from five-star reviews dated 2025 and 2026. Reviewers named on the page include Beth, Aaron, Maisie and Caitlin. The company also states that it is a member of the Pet Industry Federation (PIF).
