Maskay guide

Where should you stay in Seville if you arrive at Santa Justa and want to visit the Real Alcázar?

Two three-star hotels serve different priorities: sleeping near the train or staying inside the old town.

In Seville, the choice of where to sleep begins before you enter the Real Alcázar. Santa Justa receives high-speed trains east of the centre, while the palaces and gardens lie between Santa Cruz and the Cathedral. Some hotels let you step off the train and drop your bag quickly; others require continuing into the old town but save walking on the following days. A night can take on a different rhythm depending on which use of time matters more.

Near the train: a garden to return to at day’s end

Hotel AACR Monteolivos stands at 5 Monte Olivete, five minutes on foot from Santa Justa according to its website. This three-star hotel has a seasonal pool, garden and buffet breakfast. It suits late arrivals, early departures and travellers who do not want to carry luggage through the old town. Its address also gives access to the Nervión district. The Real Alcázar is not next door: allow time to walk or take public transport. Parking cannot be reserved in advance and depends on spaces free at arrival.

Inside the old town: start walking when you step out

Hotel Don Paco is on Plaza Padre Jerónimo de Córdoba. It also has three stars, but changes the trip’s geography: the hotel places the Cathedral about ten minutes away on foot and makes it possible to connect central streets, Santa Cruz and the Alcázar area without replanning every outing. It has a rooftop pool, buffet restaurant and several room types. Arriving with bags from Santa Justa requires more planning at the outset than at Monteolivos; for two or three days largely spent in the old town, that initial effort may pay off.

Book the monument before settling the itinerary

The Real Alcázar publishes different hours from October to March and from April to September, as well as official ticket sales. Check the hours and ticket type before arranging the day around a hotel. Do not calculate the total cost from the room alone: compare breakfast, cancellation terms and transport from the station. Monteolivos guests value the rail access and garden, though some question room or bathroom size; Don Paco visitors welcome the location and terrace but sometimes mention noise or upkeep. Both properties’ official stars are classifications, not satisfaction scores.

If the train dictates your schedule, Monteolivos makes the beginning and end easier. If the trip revolves around the Alcázar and evenings walking through Seville, Don Paco puts the old town first. At either property, confirm the actual room category and give the gardens proper time.

Bottom line

Monteolivos makes the train easier; Don Paco shortens old-town walks.
