Maskay guide

Where should you stay in Delft if you arrive by train and want to walk to the Vermeer Centre?

Two ways to explore Delft without a car: ibis Styles beside the station and Hotel Johannes Vermeer among the canals and old-town streets.

The train leaves visitors to Delft within a manageable walk of its old centre. Vermeer Centrum stands at 21 Voldersgracht near the Markt and describes a short walk from the station; different sections of its own page say seven and twelve minutes, so allow about ten and more with luggage. The overnight choice is clear: ibis Styles Delft City Centre, beside the station, or Hotel Johannes Vermeer Delft, already inside the historic centre.

What the Vermeer Centre actually shows

The most important point before buying admission is not about either hotel. Vermeer Centrum says it has no original paintings by the artist. It is an interpretation centre about his life, city and work, with full-size reproductions and an audio tour in several languages. It normally opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00, subject to holiday exceptions. To see original paintings, the trip must include museums that hold them, such as Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum or the Mauritshuis in The Hague. Staying in Delft instead lets you walk through the urban setting that helps explain the painter.

ibis Styles is at 2 Van Leeuwenhoekpark and advertises modern rooms, a bar and immediate station access. Its official three stars are separate from its guest score. Reviews value the logistics and staff, though some mention room temperature or size. The website sells packages with attraction tickets; compare these with a standard reservation and check whether breakfast is included. This is the simplest choice for a late arrival, early departure or rail trips to other cities.

A night within the old streets

Hotel Johannes Vermeer stands at Molslaan 18–22 beside a canal, roughly ten minutes on foot from the station according to the travel listing. It occupies a former cigar factory and offers a bar and breakfast. Many guests value its setting, while others mention stairs, maintenance or problems arriving late. Confirm the floor, key collection and reception hours; the rooms will not all be alike. Choose this hotel if the night should be part of a walk among canals and the market square. Choose ibis if the priority is to step off the train, drop a bag and set out towards Vermeer.

Bottom line

ibis Styles minimises luggage transfers; Hotel Johannes Vermeer puts the night inside the old town, with access arrangements worth confirming.
