Where should you have coffee after visiting Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen?

Torvehallerne offers a coffee-focused counter; across the garden, Atelier September turns the break into breakfast.

Rosenborg holds treasures of the Danish monarchy within the King's Garden. On leaving, the garden lets you choose a direction before choosing a café brand. Towards Nørreport and Torvehallerne is Coffee Collective, a counter amid the bustle of the market. Towards Kronprinsessegade, Atelier September offers a table and a breakfast menu. These are not two versions of the same coffee stop: one gives priority to the drink; the other to food and setting.

Use the castle exit to plan the walk

The Royal Danish Collection places Rosenborg's entrance at 4A Øster Voldgade and identifies nearby Nørreport station. If you are continuing by train or metro, cross to Torvehallerne on Vendersgade. If you would rather walk farther through the King's Garden or continue towards Nyboder, Kronprinsessegade fits that route better. Check castle tickets and hours before promising yourself breakfast afterwards: a café may open early, but the palace has its own schedule.

A cup while watching the market

Coffee Collective Torvehallerne opened its market branch in 2019. The open counter reveals the brewing process, especially appealing if you care about filter coffee and bean origin. It opens before many food traders and remains open into the evening. Visitors appreciate the cup, though some find the bill high or the counter crowded. Food can be bought from other stalls, but their hours and payments are separate.

A designed breakfast worth lingering over

Atelier September Kronprinsessegade has occupied a former bakery at number 62 since 2023. Its menu highlights avocado toast, granola and breakfast plates. The kitchen closes before the café, and opinions are divided: some enjoy the light, bread and presentation; others recount queues and high prices. It suits someone wanting to eat and take in the interior, not the most predictable quick cup on the way to a train. Choosing your walking direction first avoids an unnecessary loop around the garden.

Bottom line

Coffee Collective suits coffee-first travellers heading to Nørreport; Atelier September offers a breakfast stop, potentially at a higher price and with a wait.
