Where can you eat morcilla and lechazo after visiting Burgos Cathedral?

Casa Ojeda serves oven-roasted lechazo at a dining-room table; La Favorita offers morcilla, tapas and lamb chops at a different pace.

The spires of Burgos Cathedral mark the end of one visit and the start of another way of understanding Castile. Construction began in 1221; centuries of Gothic work have made the church a UNESCO World Heritage site. A few minutes away on foot, the food question needs precision. Burgos morcilla blood sausage can be ordered as a portion; lechazo, suckling lamb, may arrive roasted in an oven or as grilled chops. These are different orders and need not lead to the same restaurant.

Restaurante Casa Ojeda is the historic table. The family group dates its beginnings to 1912 and places the dining room at 2 Calle Condestable. Guía Repsol associates it with beans, morcilla and wood-oven roasted lechazo. The experience needs more time than a tapa: dining room, menu, perhaps a booking and the bill of a full meal. Customers praise the roast and traditional setting; others find it expensive or describe less successful service. If you are travelling expressly for lechazo, confirm that it is being served at your chosen sitting.

La Favorita Burgos, at 8 Calle Avellanos, offers a more flexible route. Its menu lists Cardeña morcilla, cured-beef rolls and suckling-lamb chops. Its bar and dining room do not work as the same booking: the first invites you to look at tapas, the second to choose a menu meal. The chops let you eat young lamb, but they are not Casa Ojeda’s roast. Diners describe range and atmosphere, alongside waiting and uneven service when busy. Look at the entire order, including drinks, before calling it inexpensive.

There is an address trap worth avoiding. The Ojeda company lists its restaurant at 2 Calle Condestable and its delicatessen shop at 5 Calle Vitoria. Some directories merge the two numbers because the premises are close. For a dining-room reservation, follow the restaurant’s own address and phone number. La Favorita lists 8 Calle Avellanos and its own telephone; local information says it is closed on Wednesday. Both can be reached on foot from the cathedral, but kitchen service and the length of your cathedral visit matter much more than a few hundred metres.

A sensible plan starts by checking cathedral admission and the time you will leave, then booking a restaurant if lechazo is the priority. For an unhurried Castilian meal, Casa Ojeda offers the oven dish many visitors seek. To taste morcilla and other bites without making the entire day a long lunch, La Favorita offers another approach, provided you check whether a table or only bar space is available. The useful guide does not promise the single “best” dish; it helps you order exactly what you came to eat.

Bottom line

Casa Ojeda is the direct choice for a leisurely meal of oven-roasted lechazo; La Favorita is better for comparing morcilla, tapas and grilled chops.
