Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag bring a great deal of German history into a few blocks. Photographs, parliamentary entry checks and walks through the government district all take place here. Eating afterwards can mean stopping almost where you stand or making lunch the next stage of the route. Hopfingerbräu am Brandenburger Tor lies between Gate and Reichstag; Zollpackhof Berlin is farther on beside the Spree, opposite the Chancellery.
Arrange the Reichstag visit first
The Bundestag’s roof terrace and dome are free but require advance registration. Parliament can change access, and the dome has specific maintenance closures; check your date before reserving a restaurant table. Brandenburg Gate can be viewed from Pariser Platz without that process. With a dome admission slot, Hopfingerbräu makes the interval between visit and meal simple. If the timing leaves room, continue through the government district towards the river and make Zollpackhof part of the walk.
Beside the monuments or by the river
Hopfingerbräu serves Berlin specialities, Bavarian dishes, vegetarian options and German beer at 24 Ebertstraße. Its terrace looks towards the landmarks, while the courtyard offers a more sheltered area. It opens from 10:00 and lists a 23:30 closing time from March to December. It is convenient, but accounts of the food and service are mixed. The buffets on its website are for groups and events, not its ordinary walk-in service.
Zollpackhof, at 1 Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße, opens its restaurant daily from 12:00 to 23:00. Its dining room and beer garden pair German cooking with Augustiner beer. Hospitality on the site goes back to older inns, although the present complex was restored in this century. The riverside setting and atmosphere draw many compliments; busy days bring reports of waits or uneven service. The garden is weather-dependent and may operate differently from the indoor restaurant.
The practical choice
If you need to return quickly to Brandenburger Tor station or have only a short meal window, choose the closer table and check the menu first. If you are heading towards the central railway station or want to walk beside the Spree, continue to Zollpackhof. Neither should be marketed as a cheap buffet: both are restaurants with their own menus. The better choice comes from the time available after the Reichstag and the kind of break you want, not from a vague promise of “authentic” German food.
Hopfingerbräu is the immediate stop; Zollpackhof rewards the longer walk with a Spree-side table, particularly when the garden is open.

Hopfingerbräu stands at 24 Ebertstraße, literally between Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. That position defines its usefulness: after crossing Pariser Platz or leaving a Bundestag visit, you need no transport to find German food and a beer. Zollpackhof occupies the Spree bank opposite the Federal Chancellery at 1 Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße. Its history needs precision: the business points to a long tradition of hospitality on this site, while the present complex was revived from 2005 and rebuilt in 2014–16 in partnership with Munich’s Augu
