When you need to agree on the meeting time
Literacy Delaware's learner page offers individual or small-group tutoring at mutually convenient places and times. It serves all three Delaware counties and can therefore be a starting point beyond Wilmington, where its administrative office is based. Applicants complete an assessment and commit to weekly meetings and at least 90 instructional hours a year; the published minimum age is 16, with applicants not in school.
That arrangement is flexible but not on demand. Ask 302-658-5624 or learner@literacydelaware.org how matching works for your availability and where meetings could take place. The organization's tutor-training events are for volunteers, not a calendar of English classes for new students. Do not build a learner's schedule around those event dates.
When a morning or evening group works better
Christina Adult Education's ESL FAQ describes morning and evening classes at different levels. Its program page lists teaching at Stubbs Early Education Center in Wilmington and Claymont Community Center, while the Bear address is the program office. Ask for the actual days, time and assigned location after placement; the source does not establish that every level runs at every site.
The dated August 20, 2026 notice gives the new contact as 302-595-3500 extension 1005. Use that update rather than an older number still appearing elsewhere. Registration generally takes place in August and January, and classes run September–June. If you missed registration, ask staff about the next step and capacity instead of assuming you can walk into an ongoing class.
The program does not provide childcare for these classes. Its FAQ says children cannot accompany a student on school property during class, so a parent needs a separate arrangement. Discuss the requested Social Security number or ITIN privately with staff and clarify the published preference and requirements before completing an application.
When a college conversation course fits your level
Delaware Tech's July–December 2026 noncredit catalog lists English Conversation I in Georgetown on Mondays and Wednesdays through December 7, including an 8:30–10:45 a.m. section. It labels the beginning course free and requires assessment; higher levels carry their own prerequisites and fees. These courses have already started, so 302-259-6330 is the contact for confirming late entry or a later intake, not a guarantee of a seat.
The campus's continuing-education office hours are separate from class times. The evening hybrid sessions printed above the English section in the catalog belong to GED preparation, not ESL. A degree or academic certificate in English is also a different enrollment route from the noncredit conversation course.
Direct Google Maps checked on September 28, 2026 showed the whole Georgetown campus at 4.4/5 from 84 reviews; that is not an ESL-specific score. The matched Literacy Delaware and Bear Christina listings did not display a rating. We do not substitute another organization's stars or an older Newark listing's review.
Bring the same practical questions to each program: assessed level, regular attendance, current intake, total cost and location. Choosing a sustainable timetable and a realistic learning goal matters more than a general claim that classes are flexible.
