Maskay guide

What should you know before visiting Strasbourg Cathedral and climbing to its platform?

The nave is free; the platform requires a ticket and 330 steps. Check hours, the astronomical clock and nearby walks.

Visiting Strasbourg Cathedral: the nave and platform

Strasbourg Cathedral offers two distinct visits: the nave and the raised platform. The nave is free and lets you pause by the stained glass and astronomical clock; the platform requires a ticket and a climb of 330 steps. Treating them separately makes it easier to judge how much time and effort you want to spend.

The nave: free entry, except during services

The parish lists split hours Monday to Saturday and a shorter window on Sundays and feast days. No booking is needed, but security checks and pauses for services may apply. The astronomical clock has a daily presentation at 12:30 p.m.; confirm access and arrangements for this activity with official sources.

The platform costs extra

The tourism listing gives an adult fare of €10 and seasonal hours. From October to March it opens 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 1:30–6 p.m.; the last climb is 45 minutes before closing. Access may be suspended during heavy crowds or bad weather. The platform ticket is separate from free entry to the nave.

Continue into Quartier de la Petite France

From the square, a walk to Petite France passes canals, half-timbered houses and bridges. The neighbourhood is public and free, though cobblestones and narrow sections can feel more difficult when groups are around. If you want to rest your legs, Batorama offers 45- or 70-minute cruises; check that day’s departures and pier.

Google Maps showed 4.8/5 from 76,794 reviews for the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, while Tripadvisor showed 4.7/5 from 15,487 reviews on the pages checked. Reviews praise the architecture, but cannot tell you how the climb will feel or how long the queue will be. If you can manage the stairs and the sky is clear, leave time for the platform; otherwise, the nave and historic centre still make a complete visit.

Bottom line

Plan around your time and mobility; confirm current hours and prices.
