Virginia Beach markets connect its resort coast to its farming country
Virginia Beach is usually introduced through its Atlantic shoreline, but the city’s food map also runs inland toward farms and rural communities. The visitor bureau places the Old Beach Farmers Market in the ViBe Creative District near the resort area, while the city’s own market sits on Dam Neck Road in the agricultural south. That difference matters: these are not three versions of the same Saturday outing. One is a compact weekly market near galleries and beach traffic, one is a year-round collection of agriculture-related shops, and one is a neighborhood gathering held only during the warm months.
Old Beach Farmers Market meets at 611 18th Street. Its 2026 calendar lists Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon every week April through October, then the first and third Saturdays from November through March. The market’s site describes a food-led mix that can include seasonal fruit and vegetables, pork, beef, poultry, Wagyu, eggs, seafood, cheeses, bakery goods and prepared foods, alongside flowers and locally made items. It began in 2008 and is volunteer-run; the tourism listing describes it as a Virginia Green market supporting family farms, watermen and Virginia wineries. The visitor bureau says the market moved onto the 18th Street parklet in August, while the market site gives 611 18th Street as its address, so check the weekly notice for the precise stall layout.
Parking is unusually specific for this stop. The market’s current directions identify the Runnymede lots on Cypress Avenue at 20th and 21st streets, the Convention Center lot at 19th Street and Parks Avenue, and on-street spaces on 18th Street west of Cypress. That makes the market easier to combine with a ViBe walk, but a beach-day itinerary and a produce shop still compete for the same Saturday morning. Arriving early is a sensible way to protect time for shopping and the nearby district; no posted schedule promises that every vendor or product appears each week.
Virginia Beach Farmers Market is a different proposition at 3640 Dam Neck Road. The city calls it a year-round marketplace of agriculture-inspired shops and related businesses, rather than a single weekly outdoor row of farm stalls. The local tourism guide describes fresh local produce, meats and artisan goods, and the city’s merchant pages let visitors check individual businesses and their separate hours. The building and grounds also act as an event venue: the city’s 2026 calendar lists eight special events, while Friday Night Hoedowns run from April through October with free local live music from 7 to 10 p.m. The final listed 2026 Hoedown falls on October 30; the city separately lists a Fall Festival for November 7 with crafts, food, music and children’s activities.
King’s Grant Farmers Market brings the scale back down to a neighborhood gathering at 873 Little Neck Road. King’s Grant Baptist Church says the market is not a fundraiser and frames it as a community gift supporting local farmers, sustainable living and multigenerational gatherings. Its 2026 schedule ran on the first and third Thursdays from May through September, 4 to 7 p.m.; the church lists September 17 as the last session of that season. The market is therefore a useful date to keep for a future warm-weather visit, but not a current October shopping option. The church has not posted a 2027 calendar on the cited market page.
Virginia Beach’s geography makes a short list of markets more useful than an overconfident claim that all three fit into one outing. Hampton Roads Transit serves Virginia Beach by bus, light rail, ferry and paratransit across the wider region, but the three addresses sit in different parts of a large city. Check HRT’s current route planner for the exact trip rather than assuming a transfer or stop; drivers can use the Old Beach lots published by its organizer, while the other market pages do not give a shared parking plan. For a coastal morning, choose Old Beach; for a year-round inland market visit, browse the city facility’s merchant directory; and for a community-oriented seasonal market, save King’s Grant for the next published run. Local prices and vendor lineups change with the harvest, so a calendar and the week’s notices are more dependable than a fixed shopping list.
Choose by day and landscape: Old Beach is the weekend stop near the ViBe district, the city market gives shoppers a year-round inland marketplace, and King’s Grant is a seasonal community event whose next dates have not yet been posted.
