Heritage Hall, at 277 South Main Street, is a Greek Revival house that the tourism bureau dates to 1811. It remained privately occupied until 1977, and Morgan County Historical Society now preserves it. Furnished rooms and docent interpretation help visitors examine the lives represented inside and the history of conservation.
The Society’s website is currently being rebuilt, but it explicitly confirms that the museum remains open. Tuesday–Saturday visits depart on the hour, with the final tour at three. Sunday tours start on the half hour and finish departing at three-thirty. A closing time is not a last-tour time; call to organize the intended visit or a group arrangement.

Look at the school’s second life
Madison-Morgan Cultural Center occupies the Romanesque Revival Madison Graded School, completed in 1895. Community preservation efforts in the 1970s gave the building a new life in arts, history and education. Galleries, historical displays and a preserved classroom relate the experience to the town and Piedmont region.
Its historic auditorium supports a separate performance program. The fiftieth-anniversary calendar in 2026 lists an October 24 Harvest Festival and December 17 Atlanta Symphony Orchestra holiday concert. Consult individual event arrangements rather than assuming ordinary museum admission includes an evening ticket.
The current museum timetable opens Tuesday–Saturday ten to five and Sunday one to four. Directly checked Sunday opening supersedes older indexed wording, making the present visit page the practical reference.
Move from preservation to a managed natural landscape
Hard Labor Creek State Park, near Rutledge, connects wooded Piedmont habitat with Civilian Conservation Corps construction. Lake Rutledge has a ramp and horsepower limit; Lake Brantley has no ramp. Swimming and paddle rentals are seasonal, while hiking, cycling and designated equestrian routes require an appropriate route choice.
The park opens seven to ten, but office and individual facilities have separate conditions. Check hunt-related access notices and avoid confusing the park with the similarly named Walton County reservoir.
