Where to eat sushi in Billings: downtown or Grand Avenue?

NaRa and Fancy Sushi offer two ways to eat sushi in Billings: one near downtown’s historic corridor and one among Grand Avenue’s commercial businesses.

Billings is more than a stop before Yellowstone: its centre combines historic brick buildings, museums, galleries and a network of shops and restaurants that can be explored on foot in sections. The visitor bureau distinguishes downtown, Midtown, West End, Heights and other districts; Grand Avenue belongs to a commercial corridor apart from the historic core. That geography matters when choosing sushi: NaRa is near downtown and its heritage walks, while Fancy Sushi sits farther along the service corridor, convenient if your hotel or shopping plans are in that part of town.

NaRa Restaurant, at 3 Custer Avenue, pairs Japanese sushi with Korean cooking: nigiri, sashimi, maki, house rolls, beer and wine. Visit Billings highlights its large rolls, and local listings describe reservations, pickup and catering. Google comments often mention presentation, portions and staff; some diners differ on cost or particular dishes. It is a dinner to enjoy without rushing and to budget according to what you order. A few miles toward Grand Avenue, Fancy Sushi Asian Fusion broadens the range with sushi, teriyaki, noodles and Chinese, Korean and Thai dishes, plus lunch boxes and delivery.

The practical difference is itinerary, not an absolute ranking. NaRa works for someone walking downtown and looking for a seated meal with wine and rolls; Fancy offers flexibility when a group is not united around sushi or wants takeout. Google reviews for both locations mention variety, generous rolls and service, though opinions on particular flavours vary. Neither should be marketed as inexpensive without checking the menu: prices depend on fish, extras and order size. Fancy publishes lunch and delivery; NaRa listings show split shifts, but its official pages could not be retrieved during this check, so a phone confirmation is sensible.

Billings has official historic walks and a downtown promoted by Visit Billings, but we make no blanket safety promise for every street or hour. If dinner is at Custer Avenue and you later continue to Grand Avenue, use a vehicle: the two sites are in different districts and do not form a walkable restaurant route. Fancy posts Tuesday–Sunday hours; local sources say NaRa generally closes Sunday and Monday. Both have phone numbers and map listings; dedicated restaurant parking was not confirmed in official sources, so check the listing before driving. For a full day, downtown in the afternoon and NaRa for dinner make the more compact sequence; Fancy is the practical choice on the city’s other commercial side.

Bottom line
