A move from St. Louis to Kansas City may cover more than 240 miles; a move within University City crosses a different jurisdiction. In either case, provide exact addresses, inventory and access details, and ask which company will carry the goods.
MoDOT says household-goods carriers must obtain authority before operating in or between municipalities and certain commercial zones. Its list identifies legal name, trade name and status. The register dated July 15, 2026 shows A 1 Moving and Storage Inc. and Modern Moving Solutions LLC as ACTIVE; check the list again before booking.
A-1 is based in Rolla and describes household and office moves, packing and storage, plus longer routes. Modern Moving Solutions is in University City and advertises the St. Louis area and interstate moves. Their bases and advertised areas differ; broad coverage claims do not guarantee a specific route is available.
Favourable reviews on the identified listings mention punctuality, communication and careful furniture handling. Treat them as individual accounts and request written details of inventory, packing, storage, carrier and applicable protection.
Compare estimates prepared from the same item list and ask about travel time, access, materials and dates. If you cross a state line, verify the actual carrier through FMCSA. Request an estimate from A-1 and Modern Moving Solutions; read the profiles of A-1 in Rolla and Modern Moving Solutions in University City.
