The Kansas Comprehensive Grant may help Kansas residents with financial need who study full time at eligible in-state institutions. The list includes six public universities, Washburn and 18 private colleges. First confirm that your school and program qualify; filing FAFSA alone does not make every institution a participant. The Kansas Board of Regents publishes the criteria and administers the grant, but it is not a guaranteed offer for everyone with financial need.
For 2026–27, the state page lists ranges of $100 to $4,000 at public institutions and $200 to $10,000 at private schools. It also warns that funding is limited and about one in three eligible students receives support. Do not treat the minimum as promised or the maximum as an expected discount. State law ties awards to need and sets different caps for public/state institutions and independent colleges. The final decision depends on the campus, your FAFSA file and the available allocation.
The distinctive feature is that there is no separate application for this grant. File the correct FAFSA year and list one or more eligible institutions so the state and campus can review need. Do not confuse this with other Kansas scholarships, whose portal may require an account and application. If the Comprehensive Grant is missing from your offer, ask financial aid to confirm that FAFSA arrived and is complete and that residency, full-time enrollment and school eligibility were checked. Ask whether the school still has funds to award.
To decide whether the aid makes enrollment affordable, calculate total cost of attendance, not just tuition: fees, housing, food, transportation, books and personal expenses may exceed the grant. Compare it with other confirmed awards and keep grants separate from loans and campus work. Before reducing credits or switching to part-time study, ask how eligibility changes because the published criteria require full-time enrollment. When comparing public and private campuses, use the net price after aid confirmed in writing, not only the largest number in a chart.
Online conversations among Kansas students and families reflect a common question: will an aid package make college possible without debt, and what balance remains after FAFSA? We did not find a verifiable public recipient account describing a personal Kansas Comprehensive Grant award, so we do not attribute testimonials to this program. What is verifiable is that funds are limited and not every eligible student is funded. For an individual answer, the Kansas Board of Regents is in Topeka at 1000 SW Jackson Street, Suite 520, phone 785-430-4240; your campus should explain the amount and remaining balance.
