Where can you shop at farmers markets in Jersey City?

Compare Jersey City’s Grove Street, Van Vorst Park and Riverview markets by neighborhood, weekly schedule and food-benefit access.

Jersey City’s farmers markets move from PATH plaza to neighborhood park to the Heights

Jersey City has more than one farmers-market rhythm. The state PATH station plazas, residential squares and hilltop parks each host their own version of the weekly shop. The 2026 city directory lists nine markets, but three especially legible choices reach different parts of the city: the Historic Downtown stalls at Grove Street, the all-year Saturday market at Van Vorst Park and the Sunday gathering at Riverview-Fisk Park in the Heights. Their hours, seasons and benefit rules are public, which makes it possible to plan by neighborhood rather than treat every market as interchangeable.

Downtown, the Historic Downtown Farmers Market is built into the Grove Street PATH Plaza, an active pedestrian and commuter setting. The Hudson County district’s 2026 calendar lists Mondays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m., April 20 through December 21. More than 30 local vendors rotate through the week, and the organizer names fresh produce, pies, cookies, flowers and other local goods among the offerings. It is a useful after-work window for shoppers who want produce alongside baked goods or flowers. Because vendors rotate, the published list describes the market’s breadth, not a guarantee that every stand appears on every date.

The city says Jersey City markets must accept WIC, SNAP/EBT, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers and WIC vouchers under the municipal ordinance. That access rule gives the downtown market a practical role beyond browsing, but individual eligible items and token procedures still belong to the market information booth or seller. The city also identifies the Grove Street PATH Plaza and Newark Pedestrian Mall as the downtown market area. The HDSID page specifies Grove Street Plaza for its current dated 2026 calendar, so visitors should follow the organizer’s location details for the chosen date.

A few blocks south, Van Vorst Park Farmers Market offers the simplest year-round schedule in this trio: Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 281 Montgomery Street. Its setting is a neighborhood park rather than a transit plaza, and the municipal listing confirms WIC, SNAP/EBT and Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits. The city’s farmers-market program describes its purpose as connecting customers with fresh local products; it does not publish one fixed vendor roster or shared price list for Van Vorst. That means the market suits a recurring weekly stop, while the actual farm and product mix should be checked in person.

Across the city, Riverview Farmers Market occupies Riverview-Fisk Park at 498 Palisade Avenue. Its 2026 Sunday season runs May 3 through November 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The market’s Good Food Bucks page says an eligible SNAP/EBT purchase of up to $15 per card per market can be tripled through tokens, with vendor and product limits. Its example turns $15 in SNAP spending into $45 in total tokens. A fountain-side information tent handles tokens; the organizer identifies participating sellers on its vendor page. This is targeted support for eligible purchases, not a discount on every stand or item.

Riverview is also a neighborhood gathering rather than a strictly produce-only errand. The organizer’s calendar features seasonal events and a first-Sunday music program, while its October update describes rain interruptions and event changes. The recurring Sunday market is the reliable framework; special festivals, children’s activities and music depend on dated announcements. This distinction helps visitors decide whether to come for the produce or to build a longer outing around a particular program. Follow the current Sunday announcement, especially late in the season when weather or one-off events may alter what is happening.

The three stops form a practical cross-city comparison: downtown is an afternoon market beside PATH, Van Vorst is the year-round Saturday park market, and Riverview is a seasonal Sunday destination in the Heights with the most detailed SNAP match. None offers a common price list across independent sellers. Bring a reusable bag, compare produce and quantities stall by stall, and check the organizer’s schedule before setting out. A market can be open while a specific vendor is absent, and the citywide benefit requirement does not mean every market publishes identical redemption steps.

Bottom line

Choose by the day and the district: downtown for a weekday afternoon, Van Vorst for a year-round Saturday, or Riverview for a seasonal Sunday with a published SNAP match.
