Which International Drive buffet suits you: Asian variety or hot pot and Korean barbecue?

Ichiban serves ready-to-eat dishes at a fixed price; Volcano offers hot pot and barbecue cooked at the table. Compare the format, rates and what to know.

On International Drive, where restaurants compete with parks and attractions for a visitor’s budget, two venues offer all-you-can-eat meals in very different ways. Ichiban Buffet fills the table with ready-to-eat food, sushi and a hibachi station; Volcano Hot Pot & Korean BBQ turns dinner into an activity in which the group cooks and grills its own ingredients. The useful question is not which has more dishes, but how much you want to spend and how long you want dinner to take.

Ichiban is the more affordable weekday choice if you arrive for lunch: its website lists US$13.99 until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, compared with US$17.99 for dinner. The selection includes Chinese dishes, sushi, salad, desserts and hibachi; visitors agree that variety and price attract families, though some also criticise the temperature or consistency of certain dishes and the service. The weekend rate rises to US$19.99 all day, and parties of five or more have added gratuity under the restaurant’s policy.

Volcano requires more money and time. Its official rate is US$33.99 for hot pot or Korean barbecue and US$38.99 to combine both, with a 90-minute limit. Instead of moving along a buffet line, diners cook meat, seafood or vegetables in broth and on a grill; visitors appreciate the interaction and range, although the fixed charge may not suit light eaters or anyone in a hurry. Both restaurants are on the same corridor, but their format, bill and duration are not comparable.

For an affordable meal with familiar choices, Ichiban is the better fit if you can use its Monday-to-Thursday lunch rate and accept some variation in quality; for a shared outing where cooking is part of the plan, Volcano makes sense as an experience-led dinner. Both publish prices online, but tax, gratuity and children’s rules can change the total. Check the rate for your date, book for a large group and do not assume that “unlimited” means the same conditions everywhere.
