Where can you get free job-search help in southeast Portland, and how can you raise a complaint?

WorkSource Southeast offers no-cost guidance and tools on Foster Road. What to ask before visiting and where to raise a complaint.

A job search can consume weeks of applications, calls and courses that do not always lead to an interview. In southeast Portland, WorkSource offers a public starting point on Foster Road: its regional centre lists help with organising a search, reviewing a résumé, practising interviews and exploring referrals, training or scholarships. The system is funded with public money and says its resources are provided at no cost. The concrete promise is not “we will get you a job”; it is help identifying useful next steps and services for your situation.

The Southeast site is listed at 6401 SE Foster Road, near the Foster commercial corridor, and the regional directory gives 503-934-0630. It is one of six locations in the metro system; during programme year 2025–26, the centre reported serving 10,722 people. That figure shows service volume, not how many found work or the result for any individual. The regional directory also does not give Foster’s specific opening hours. Before travelling, call to ask whether you need an appointment, which languages are available, whether you should register online and what documents to bring.

Testimonials reproduced by a business directory from Google include thanks for reception staff and a comment appreciating the help despite perceived understaffing. There is also a complaint about unemployment-benefit recovery, a separate state service that cannot by itself assess career guidance. We could not find current data for an exact Foster listing that would support publishing a rating and review count with confidence; isolated reviews should not be turned into a performance audit either. The practical step is to compare experiences with official information, ask who will follow up and request the next steps in writing.

Oregon does provide an institutional route for asking the department to review a concern: ask to speak with the centre’s complaint specialist or contact the state coordinator for employment-services complaints. If the issue is discrimination, the Employment Department describes a formal process, accepts a written account and links to a Spanish-language form; the general deadline it lists is 180 days. Keep dates, emails, the programme name and any job referral. If someone offers to “speed up” a hire in exchange for money, stop: the state lists advance processing fees among the warning signs of a scam.

When completing applications online, check the domain and confirm the vacancy on the employer’s official website. An online application can be legitimate; warning signs include interview fees, mandatory training or equipment charges before anyone explains who is hiring, or requests for bank details too early. WorkSource can guide you, but it does not make hiring decisions for companies or guarantee placement. For a clear start, call the Foster centre, ask which service matches your goal and agree on how and when someone will follow up.
