How can you get free job-search help in Hartford and book an appointment?

The Weston Street American Job Center offers guidance and workshops. Learn how to request an appointment, open a CTHires account and follow up.

In Hartford, a public employment office can be most useful when you arrive with a specific question. The American Job Center on Weston Street helps with résumés, interview practice, job-search guidance, workshops, hiring events and training opportunities. Connecticut provides some services in person and others virtually, at no cost to job seekers. It is not a placement agency selling access to employers: the office supports your search, while each company decides whom to hire.

The centre is at 60 Weston Street, Hartford, CT 06120. The phone number is 860-256-3700 and the TTY/TDD number is 860-256-3514. The centre listing gives weekday hours of 8 a.m.–4:15 p.m. and recommends making an appointment. To request one, visit the official American Job Centers page and select Schedule Appointment; staff will coordinate the service. You can also open a free account with CTHires to search openings, check events and prepare your application. Hartford American Job Center offers in-person or virtual support if you need more than the online portal.

A first phone call can save a trip: explain whether you need a résumé review, guidance on changing fields, veterans’ support, disability accommodations or information about training. Ask what to bring and when someone will follow up. If you believe you experienced discrimination in a WIOA-funded programme, Connecticut’s official notice allows a complaint to be filed with an Equal Opportunity Officer and generally gives a 180-day deadline; this is different from an appeal of an unemployment-insurance decision. For service problems, start with the centre and keep names, dates and messages. The state links to its public Instagram account, @CTHires_Official.

Whatever the search, protect your money and identity. The FTC advises job seekers not to pay someone to find them work and to verify an offer by contacting the company through a channel listed on its own website. A guaranteed-job promise, a cheque to deposit and forward, or an early request for bank details deserves a pause and a check. Public career guidance can improve your preparation, but it cannot replace an interview or guarantee an outcome.
