How to apply for Florida FSAG or FGMG college grants

2026–27 FSAG and FGMG guide: eligibility, FAFSA, campus deadlines, amounts and how to follow up on missing aid.

Florida’s FSAG and FGMG are need-based grants, but one serves eligible residents at participating schools while the other adds a family-education test: being the first generation to reach a bachelor’s degree. Read the profiles for the Florida Student Assistance Grant and First Generation Matching Grant before applying; FGMG is not simply an open grant for every low-income student.

For FSAG Public, the 2026–27 sheet requires Florida residency, U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen status, an undergraduate program and at least six credits per term. Private and Postsecondary tracks generally require twelve. FGMG additionally requires that neither parent earned a bachelor’s degree, subject to the stated exception for a student supported by one parent without a bachelor’s. In both programs, the college confirms residency and status, uses FAFSA to assess need and may add local requirements.

The decisive step is to contact the college financial-aid office rather than assume FSAG or FGMG has one statewide student form. File FAFSA for the correct academic year and ask in writing: What is the campus deadline? Which documents are missing? Does my program participate? How do I document my parents’ education? Does my course load qualify? Florida reserves the FFAA for programs specifically marked for that application, such as Bright Futures; the state portal says FSAG applicants should contact their institution. FGMG is also handled at the college, and its current fact sheet says summer awards are unavailable.

For 2026–27, Florida’s FSAG matrix lists a $3,260 annual maximum and a state SAI cutoff of 9,984 for several tracks. That is not an automatic award: the college adjusts the offer for need and enrollment. Renewal generally requires a 2.0 institutional GPA and earned credits, while each college sets the procedure and amount. FGMG is based on need and institutional funding; ask how it combines with Pell, other grants and the remaining bill. Estimate tuition, fees, books and transport because college aid does not necessarily cover every expense.

In September 2026, UCF and Seminole State students wrote that FSAG was missing or appeared later in their accounts; the experiences differ and cannot explain another student’s file. If aid is absent, request a check of FAFSA status, SAI, residency, credits, selection date and available funds. Ask for a case number and response estimate; if denied for academic progress, ask about an appeal. OSFA lists 888-827-2004 for statewide guidance, but each college decides the award and balance.

Bottom line

Compare the options and confirm eligibility and deadlines directly with the program before applying.
