Maskay guide

Which moving companies serve Delaware, and what business license must a mover hold?

A Delaware household-moving guide: the state’s annual mover business license, coverage advertised across all three counties and two local companies.

A move from Newark to Dover stays within Delaware; delivery in Elkton, Maryland, or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, crosses a state line. Even if the distance is short, the records worth checking change. For a route entirely within the state, identify the mover’s legal entity and Delaware business license. If the shipment crosses a state line, add a federal check of the carrier transporting the household goods.

Title 30, §2301(a)(7) of the Delaware Code includes a person operating a business that transports other people’s tangible property for profit in the drayperson or mover category. The code sets an annual license fee of $75 and an additional fee for each branch. The Division of Revenue directs businesses to the One Stop registration and licensing system. An occupational license is not a quality certification and does not replace the correct legal entity, tax obligations, applicable municipal rules or vehicle registrations.

This state guide should distinguish a business license from federal moving authority. FMCSA requires movers and brokers arranging interstate household-goods moves to be registered, with specific authority to transport or broker those goods. A USDOT number alone is not enough: check status, activity and legal name in the federal search tool. If you hire a local brand affiliated with a network, the responsible carrier should appear on the estimate and moving documents.

Delaware Moving & Storage, based in Bear, lists communities in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties and local, commercial, long-distance and international services. Bayshore Moving & Storage, based in Newark, also names Delaware cities such as Wilmington, Dover and Middletown, along with regional routes. These companies advertise statewide reach; the exact address, date, requested service and any agent involvement still require written confirmation.

Favorable comments on the exact Google Maps listings refer to communication, coordination and care for belongings on particular jobs. These are customer observations about specific moves, not a promise that every job will unfold the same way. The profiles examine each office’s services and information to help frame useful questions before requesting a quote.

Delaware Moving lists packing, storage and valuation options; for long-distance moves it identifies itself as a Wheaton agent. Bayshore advertises residential and commercial moves, packing, warehouses and specialty services, along with its Allied network. Compare proposals using the same inventory and clarify whether one carrier will handle the route or whether the shipment will be transferred.

Delaware Moving has an estimate form, and Bayshore offers a quote form. Before accepting, confirm the state license under the entity signing, request the legal name and federal authority of the carrier when the route leaves Delaware, and review inventory, delivery and claims terms. The profiles of Delaware Moving & Storage and Bayshore Moving & Storage gather practical details about their offices.

Bottom line

For a move within Delaware, confirm the mover’s annual license under the entity signing the contract. If you cross a state line, also verify the actual carrier’s household-goods authority in FMCSA.
