Albany taco guide: Triqui masa, Madison Avenue birria and Central Avenue house tacos

Oaxaqueña Triqui, Viva Cinco de Mayo and Cielito Lindo offer three routes into Albany’s Oaxacan-influenced kitchens, with exact dishes and current contacts.

Albany’s taco scene has a strong Oaxacan thread, but that does not make its kitchens interchangeable. One places Triqui dishes and handmade masa alongside a quick taco order. Another turns birria into a crisp, broth-accompanied meal on Madison Avenue. A third offers more elaborate house tacos near the lower end of Central Avenue.

Oaxaqueña Triqui, Viva Cinco de Mayo and Cielito Lindo give a reader three precise starting points. The useful decision is whether to compare fillings, explore a regional corn preparation or settle into a fuller meal. Current contacts and ordering routes are gathered in the profiles, including a related restaurant outside the city.

Oaxaqueña Triqui: follow the masa beyond the taco

At 68 North Lake Avenue, pastor, tinga, campechano and cecina sit beside potato and chorizo, rajas and chicharrón in green salsa. Onion, cilantro, radish, lime and salsa accompany the taco order. The restaurant’s move from the former grocery address gives it a larger dining space.

Handmade quesadillas with huitlacoche or squash blossom, broad huaraches and tlayudas show why the menu deserves more than a quick glance at meat choices. Machucadas Triqui combines broken tortillas, sauce, cheese, cecina and beans. A Sunday visit needs an earlier plan: the published service ends at 3 p.m.

Viva Cinco de Mayo: decide whether the taco needs cheese

The Madison Avenue restaurant has served since December 2016. Its birria menu keeps a clear distinction between tacos with cheese and those without, both cooked crisp in chili oil with slow-cooked beef and dipping broth. A quesadilla offers the same kitchen’s third birria format.

Ordinary tacos keep onion and cilantro; fish and shrimp allow a lettuce-and-pico alternative. Sopes, huaraches, chicken mole and tlayudas expand the meal for a mixed table. The family also operates El Rancho in Colonie under a different name and menu, with that address collected inside Viva’s profile.

Cielito Lindo: a different house-taco construction

At 31 Central Avenue, a classic mixed trio can compare pastor, tinga, cecina and other fillings. The house section adds potato, cream and cheese to preparations such as chorizo or steak. That changes the texture and richness, giving the diner a meaningful choice beyond which meat to order.

Memelas, tlayudas and chicken mole retain the kitchen’s regional direction. The family restaurant opens at 10 a.m. on its operating days and closes Tuesdays. Direct and platform ordering serve the same Central Avenue address; its profile distinguishes the current business phone from an older number still displayed by directories.

Bottom line

Albany’s useful taco choices lead into full regional kitchens: compare a few fillings, then leave room for a sope, tlayuda or mole.
