AlamoPROMISE is a San Antonio community initiative that helps local graduates start at one of the five Alamo Colleges. Its specific promise is not that every college expense becomes zero: the program covers tuition and required fees for courses in the official degree plan after grants and scholarships are applied, for up to three consecutive years or until an associate degree is completed. The district’s official program profile links to the FAQ, contacts, and application steps.
To be considered, a student must graduate from a high school in Bexar County and/or live in the county, be a senior, and enroll in the fall immediately after graduation. The student must be eligible for FAFSA or TASFA, apply through ApplyTexas to one of the five colleges, and complete financial-aid requirements. The published rules include public, private, charter, and home-school graduates in Bexar County; transfer students and students already enrolled at another institution before that fall are generally excluded. There is no high-school GPA or income threshold.
The district lists February 28 as its priority date: completing admission and financial aid by then guarantees review, while later applications may be considered if space remains. The page does not identify the year for that date, so students should confirm the cohort calendar with AlamoPROMISE. File FAFSA or TASFA early and respond to any verification request; an initial form without its required documents is not a complete aid file.
The benefit is limited to courses required in the Program of Study or official degree plan. It does not cover housing, transportation, technology equipment, courses outside the plan, or summer classes. The FAQ notes that the district separately offers resources such as laptop loans and VIA passes to eligible students, but those should not be confused with expenses paid by AlamoPROMISE. Before registering for electives, confirm with an advisor that they count toward your degree plan to avoid an unexpected balance.
Continued eligibility depends on ongoing enrollment, required credits, satisfactory academic progress, taking a course in the degree plan, and filing FAFSA or TASFA every year. The district warns that students may be dropped from classes if financial-aid applications or documents remain incomplete while tuition or fee balances are due; continuing students should submit financial aid by May 1 to avoid registration problems.
