What is REDES–SP

REDES – Sostenibilidad Pesquera is a Peruvian non-profit organization that works for the sustainability of Peru's artisanal fisheries. It seeks to make fishing activity profitable and socially just, generating benefits for fishers, communities, and ecosystems.

Mission and Vision

Mission: To contribute to the sustainable management of fisheries and the well-being of fishing communities, through initiatives that reduce impacts on ecosystems, ensure economic profitability, and empower users of fishery resources.

Vision: By 2026, to be an organization with the capacities, knowledge, tools, and methodologies to generate high impact on fisheries and community well-being.

In addition, they have three cross-cutting strategic lines: capacity building, participation in fisheries governance, and generation of reliable information.

Projects and Initiatives

• INFOPES: database with more than 70 fish species.
• Study on the impacts of COVID-19 on 6 artisanal fisheries.
• Artisanal divers from Paita cleaned the seabed of the bay, removing two tons of waste.
• Sustainable agreements for the recovery of red sea urchin in Matarani and Mollendo.
• Octopus fishing in Piura: promoting responsible catch of specimens larger than 1 kg.
