Who Are We?

In 1906, 36 Okinawans arrived in Peru, filled with dreams of their distant Uchina in search of new horizons. The Okinawan Association of Peru is a cultural entity that promotes Okinawan culture and traditions in the country, offering workshops, events and cultural activities for the Nikkei community.

Activities

  • Okinawa Matsuri: Summer event of the Nikkei community that gathers the most people.
  • Uchina Engeikai: Main Okinawan folklore festival in Peru.

  • Natsumero: Most important and traditional musical show of our Nikkei community.
  • Ichariba Choode: Aims to integrate the community and spread Okinawan culture, promoting family and friendly meetings of all generations.
  • Okinampiadas: New proposal of cultural sports activities brought by the youth of the Okinawan Association of Peru.
  • Nikkei Integration Games: Activities that promote integration and the spirit of community.

Workshops

  • Swimming: An integral workshop considering the physical capabilities of children, including the most complete sport.
  • Manualidades: Class of material experimentation to make crafts and drawings.
  • Cooking: Activity that aims to awaken curiosity about cooking and discover textures, flavors and food processes.
  • Sanshin: Teaching the musical instrument covered with snake skin, handle and three strings.
  • Eisa: Typical folk dance that is part of Okinawan culture.
  • Taiko: Japanese dance that means "great drum", with rhythmic intensity and martial discipline.
