About Shoei Europe
Shoei Europe and the Japanese helmet tradition
Shoei Europe is the European distribution organisation for Shoei, a motorcycle helmet brand whose production remains based in Japan. The company presents its helmets as a premium segment of the market and links that positioning to its factories in Japan, where the brand says hundreds of employees work. The European operation handles distribution and dealer support across a long list of countries rather than manufacturing.
The site traces the origins of the brand to 1959, when Shoei Kako Co., Ltd. was founded and began producing multi-purpose safety helmets in Tokyo. Motorcycle helmets followed in 1960, and in 1962 Shoei helmets received JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) certification. The first racing helmet, the SR-1, arrived in 1963, and the first full-face model, the SR-Z, in 1967.

Manufacturing, testing and fit
According to the company, each helmet is still handmade in Japan through a process involving more than 50 people per unit, combining shell production, painting and assembly. Shoei describes its own wind tunnel in Ibaraki, Japan, as part of its testing programme, and states that feedback from professional racing teams feeds into development. The brand also emphasises that a stable fit in every riding situation is essential to the active safety of a motorcycle helmet, and offers an individualisation service aimed at adjusting that fit.
Racing pedigree and ambassadors
The site highlights a long competition record. Wayne Gardner took the 500cc title with Shoei in 1987, Eddie Lawson in 1988, and Wayne Rainey won the 500cc world championship three years in a row, with the brand noting that its riders won every 500cc world championship from 1987 onwards. Alex Crivillé won the 500cc championship in 1999. In MotoGP, Marc Márquez is presented as a six-time world champion with Shoei, and Fabio Di Giannantonio of Gresini Racing appears in an interview feature. In World Superbike, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu is listed as a three-time champion, and Jeremy Seewer is named among the motocross riders served by the brand's racing team.
Product milestones
The published timeline records several technical firsts claimed by the brand: the GR-Z in 1976 as the world's first carbon fibre helmet; the RF-102V and TJ-201V in 1984 as the first motorcycle helmets with ventilation; the X-8 in 1990 as the first with an internal visor mechanism requiring no covers; and the X-8SP in 1993 with a two-part EPS liner. Later entries include the Multitec flip-up in 2006, the VFX-W motocross helmet in 2009, the GT-AIR touring helmet in 2012, the X-Spirit 3 and J·O in 2015, and the opening of a new wind tunnel in Ibaraki in 2011.
Accessories, merchandise and owner services
Beyond helmets, the site lists visor tints, a self-tinting visor, spare parts and a casual merchandise line including T-shirts and hoodies. Owner support material covers homologation, catalogues, manuals, warranty registration and a FAQ section. A dealer locator covers markets across Europe and neighbouring regions, from Andorra and Austria to Ukraine and South Africa.
European structure
The European operation is run through Shoei Europa GmbH in Langenfeld, Germany, with a separate distribution company in Vulaines-sur-Seine, France. The site also records the founding of Shoei Europe in Belgium in 1978, its re-establishment in Düsseldorf in 1994, Shoei Distribution in Germany in 2001 and Shoei Italia in Milan in 2011. In Switzerland, distribution is handled by Hostettler AG in Sursee; in Spain, by Corver S.A. in Gavá (Barcelona).
